The Cuisine Diversity Of
Rome
A Cultural Melting Pot Of Culinary
Delight
While many may note the capital city of Italy as being a classic and revered city, many will see
it for what it really is and enjoy the cuisine diversity of Rome. This city is not only filled with a culinary
melting pot of culture, it was made that way over the generations it took to create it.
There are several different cultures that have found their way to this delightful city, only to
offer a little more to what is already a divine experience in dining. Around every corner you turn, you can find
something that will appeal to just about every conceivable palette. What this does is open Rome to all that have a
love for fine food and great lifestyle choices.
Pasta And Fine Sauces Are Introduced To Rome
It wasn’t long before the city of Rome had been
introduced to other worldly delights such as vegetable based sauces, and the incorporation of pasta with it to form
a fine dish. When Italy finally saw past the concern and fear of the Tomato, sauces made their way to more tables
and became the norm.
While the Tomato was quite popular in North America at the time, the Europeans felt that the
tomato was in fact poisonous, and could be fatal if eaten. This is because of its link to the nightshade plant.
Many tradesmen developed new and exciting dies to make various forms of pasta shapes that we all
know today such as pinwheels and bowties. These shaped noodles became a common site in Rome, and it is one of the
reasons this city was so different from all others in the country.
History And Time forced Change On This Great City
While the influence of other cultures is ever present, Rome has always tried to diligently
maintain its own identity. It was the fall of the Roam Empire that saw the first winds of change that would be the
most dramatic and profound. The forceful measure of change to the city and its surrounding countryside’s, gave way
to new beginnings in culinary experimentation.
Most of this trial and error cooking was performed as a need to survive during plight and plague
throughout the city. Going back to the basics in their cooking saw them resort to using roots, and wild grains far
more often than they were accustomed too. This did not really discourage the city however, as they have a great
deal of pride and a know how around the hearth.
Mediterranean Influence
With the introduction of new foods to the city of Rome, so too did the city feel the
Mediterranean influence affect the way they cooked. Greece offered much to the new and reviving Rome in the
culinary revolution. Bringing with it foods from the oceans, and the wonderful ways these foods were presented and
cooked. This opened new doors to the city, and allowed for much of what we know now of Rome and its diversity of
cuisine to be today.
