The Many Uses Of Pasta
from Italian Traditional Food

Pasta Has Become A Household Word

If you ever have the urge to be creative in the kitchen, you may want to remember the many uses of pasta.

This is the basic staple of many homes in Italy, and in fact it is also a staple of many homes in North America as well.

Pasta is simply put, a wonderful food that is simple to work with. There are countless ways that you can use pasta and get the most out of your meal.

Many of the dishes that you enjoy when you are out at the restaurant have incorporated some form of pasta into the recipe.

If eaten in moderation, pasta can be one of the most fulfilling portions of any meal.

From Bowties To Spirals They All Have A Purpose

Regardless of the style of pasta that you are going to use, the many uses of pasta allows for many different variations on the noodle. It does not matter if the noodle is long as in spaghetti or linguini, or short and odd as in Farfalle (bow ties) or wagon wheels. There is a place for all of the multiple forms of pasta that can be used today in various dishes.

Many of the smaller pastas are used for soups and or casseroles, while the longer or larger pastas are used as main dishes. Whatever pastas you choose and for whatever you are serving, you can bet that this is going to be a meal that is going to be appreciated by friends and family alike.

Knowing Which Pasta Goes Where

While there are in fact many uses for pasta, it is helpful to know exactly where which pasta goes in a dish or large meal. The longer pastas are served well with meats and or vegetables. Many times you will find Angel hair pasta chosen to accompany seafood such as steamed mussels or shrimp and scallops. This can be done in a few different fashions, but usually is done with a form of white sauce.

Smaller pastas such as shells and or corkscrews make a wonderful addition to the likes of soups. With old school Italian soups on the menu, you can be sure that there will be some takers as they are absolutely divine. Throwing together a casserole with the smaller of the pastas is a great way to get the kids to experiment with Italian foods. This way they can enjoy the shapes and not have to focus on the different tastes that are associated with the meal.

Everything Should Be Done With Discretion

It is true that there are many uses of pasta in an Italian dish; you must remember to use moderation when eating. While pasta is wonderful tasting and is very filling, it is also high in starch and heavy on the carbohydrates. Too many meals per week of this delightful entrée will have you busting at the pant button. Many feel less is more, however it is not always easy to say no to this fabulous dish that beckons for your attention.
