Making Your Own Pasta
The Creative Art Making Your Own
Pasta
There is just something special about making your own pasta. There is a certain satisfaction
when you make it from scratch. You get to choose the flavor, type, shape, and even color. You can make any pasta
dish your own in a very special type of way.
Making pasta is quite easy and can be a great weekend project that the whole family can enjoy.
Part of cooking is the preparation. When you make all parts of your meal from scratch you are adding time and love
to any food. Most Italians will agree that preparing a meal is part of the eating process that should be enjoyed
and savored as much as the food itself when ready to eat.
Making Pasta Dough
When it comes to making Italian pasta dough you
will want to use Italian flour, which has more gluten than regular white flour. This will make a more firm pasta.
You will also need eggs. If you would like richer pasta then add more yolks compared to whites to achieve this.
Salt will be the other ingredient you need. You will want to make a mound of flour and add the
other ingredients to it in a well in the center. Add any types of spices you choose at this point as well. Kneading
the dough is the most important part. You will want to do this for at least fifteen minutes or risk that your pasta
will tear and break while rolling.
Once your dough is ready, split it into two halves. You will begin to roll it out from the
center, flipping it often. You will want to get it as thin as a dime or thinner for use. You will have to learn
your own tricks when rolling out your pasta dough.
Types Of Pasta Made Easy
Making your own dough tends to be the hardest part of pasta making.
Once you have done that step you are ready to make your own pasta. If you plan to make long noodles like those used
in spaghetti or lasagna simply cut the dough into strips.
The best and most simple way to get a good uniform pasta noodle is to roll the dough into a tube
and then cut it in the desired width and unroll. You can dry these long strand on a rack or between to chairs,
depending on how long they are.
For stuffed pastas simply cut the desired shape and stuff with what ever you want. The bonus to
making your own stuffed pasta is you can fill it with anything you choose. You are not limited to what you buy in a
store. The best part about fresh pasta like this is it takes only a few minutes to cook.
Remember with any recipe you can add your own array of herbs, spices, and colors. Making your
own pasta takes practice, but can be very rewarding in so many ways.
