Spice Up That Italian Meal With A Fine
Cheese
Italians Love Their Cheese
If you are looking for something to spice up the meal tonight, then why not think about adding
some Italian cheese to get the most of the meal you are going to serve. There are many cheeses that can be
considered worthy to grace the recipe that you are thinking about, and a simple jaunt to the market will have a
good meal singing a great meal lyric.
The Italians love to use various cheeses to bring out the most in what they are cooking, whether
it is an actual pasta dish or even a cold salad. Finding the right cheese for the job is not a difficult task, and
it never hurts to experiment every once and a while. You never know what you are going to come up with.
The King Of All Grating Cheeses
If you are looking for something that you can sprinkle on your salad or fine pasta dish, then
you need to consider the king of all grated cheeses in the Italian cheese
family for this task. Parmesan is a fantastic cheese that us usually set in a round block or wheel shape, and left
to age for 2 or 3 years.
This process helps age the cheese and brings it to maturity, and it will get the cheese its
pungent scent that all are familiar with today. This cheese is not only great for grating on recipes, as many
Italians cut slivers of this cheese right off of the wheel and enjoy it with wine and great conversation. This
cheese is very easy to work with, so it makes it very popular and versatile in the kitchen.
Blue Cheese Startles No One
If it is something smooth and robust that you are after, then you need to look at the blue
cheeses in the Italian cheese family.
One of the most delicate and easy to work with cheeses on the market today is defiantly
Gorgonzola. Originally found in region of Lombardy, this cheese actually has options for those that so care to
separate their cheese. The mountain version is shaper and has a stronger taste, and is good to stuff peppers and
various poultry dishes with.
The Dolce version is definitely much sweeter, and is more often used for desserts and after a
large meal with wine. Gorgonzola offers two very different flavors, one great cheese. This allows you to choose
which type of flavor you are looking for, yet know that you are getting the very best in cheese.
The Final Choice
While there are countless fine Italian cheeses, few close out a meal quite like Scamorza. This
cheese that is made with unpasteurized cow’s milk, is hung to cure or dry for a long period of time not unlike the
aging of Parmesan cheese.
This very white cheese however, is not nearly as shape or harsh as the Parmesan and you will
find it on the table for the closing course of the meal. This cheese works best with fruits, and this is a very
sweet way to end a fine dining experience.
