Italian traditional food is meant to be simple, fresh and delicious. I am happy to present some of my favourite rustic, peasant but very tasty Italian traditional food. In other words, home cooking at it best!! Some of these rural Italian food recipes have been used for centuries by peasant farmer's wives (Pattona, Pattona Dura and Torta di Patate, for example) to feed hungry households, so have well stood the test of time. They are not the highly polished and intensely decorated type of Italian cuisine recipes that you will find in most modern Italian restaurants but the very basic home cooking that will guarantee a satisfied smile from even the most fastidious of eaters.
You may be surprised to learn that "Polenta" and "Focaccia" (the most humble of Italian peasant cuisine) for example, have recently very successfully found their way onto the menus of the very best of restaurants. So, please do not be a food snob just because it may have humble origins. I have used these Italian traditional food recipes to successfully feed my entire family for the past forty five years. Traditional Italian food is meant to be enjoyed!Don't be afraid to try something new!
