Italian Food And The Many Unique Differences
That Can Be Discovered
from Italian Traditional Food

Italian Food Differs From Region To Region

One of the first things you will notice when you are talking to the western culture about Italian food is how most assume it is basically all the same. More often than not, people will mention the obvious such as pizza and spaghetti.

These common foods that are of Italian origin are in fact very popular amongst the Italians, but it is the west that seems to label them the most pronounced dishes in Italy. While this is in no way an insult to the Italian culture, many nations are just not familiar with the actual diversity of the culture differences in Italy.

There is a different way of doing the same thing in just about every region that can be found in Italy, and it is this that makes this country so unique and special.

Same Concept Different Results

If you were to take a look at all the regions that are confined within the Italian landscape, you would find many things that seem very similar yet have different outcomes all together.

This can be most notable when you compare the Italian food from various regions, and you will find the differences may be subtle at times and drastic at other times. Which area in Italy you are at the moment, will dictate what type of pasta would be served for dinner.

While all pastas can be offered around Italy, you will find many specific types of pasta that are indigenous to that specific region. The western culture may wonder what sets the pastas apart as they all seem to taste the same, yet it is the Italians that know which noodle needs to be used for each and every dish.

My Sauce Is Not Your Sauce

One very large distinction between regions in regards to Italian food is the way sauce is made for the dishes they enjoy. Pasta sauce is very much a personal thing in Italy, and you will find many of the great sauces that you can by in specialty stores around the world tailored off of old family recipes. These recipes are very specific, and could be worlds apart from the sauce of the cook’s neighbor.

More often than not this is a direct result of the recipe being handed down from generation to generation. There can be many substitutes that can take place in a sauce from one home to another, and many times an outsider may not even notice the difference. To the family however, it could be a vast change in taste between the two households.

Not All Noodles

It is important to understand that Italian food is not all about noodles and sauces, and that there are so many different dishes that grace an Italian diner table that it can be quite overwhelming at times.

Many of the fine dishes that Italians are so fond of actually incorporate seafoods and or beef. These meats are a staple for the Italians for centuries, and they are used to make some of the most memorable and famous Italian foods that the world is aware of.
