Don’t Get Caught Shorthanded
In The Italian Kitchen from Italian Traditional Food
Fully stocked Italian
Kitchen
The most important thing you will ever learn from a great cook in an Italian
kitchen is that you should never begin a meal if you’re shorthanded in the kitchen. This means that you
are going to want to be sure that you have not only the ingredients for the recipe, but the herbs and spices that
accomplish the fine tweaking of the dish.
This also means that you are going to want to have every possible device that will allow you to
make this recipe without having to sacrifice the integrity of the food. If the recipe calls for a strongly beat
egg, you do not want to accomplish this with a chopstick.
A Little Spice Is Nice
While a recipe in the Italian kitchen may be specific and on paper, one
should never assume that the cook will follow the recipe to the letter. Many great cooks will try new things and
hope that they can introduce a new flavor to the dish they are preparing.
The most common way for this to be accomplished is by the use of herbs and spices. Many great
spices can actually transform a simple and bland recipe, into a masterpiece.
In order for this to happen however, you need to be sure that your kitchen has not only the
spice basics but also many different forms of spice to choose from. This will allow you to be creative in your
cooking, and when an Italian feels it is time to change something about the dish, more than likely it is in fact
need of a change.
Pots And Pans
The first thing you will notice in an Italian kitchen is the plethora of pots and pans that adorn
the walls and rack above the island. Having the right pot when called for can be the difference between the right
recipe and an absolute flop.
You will want to be sure that you have pots large enough to accommodate pastas and even large
seafoods such as lobsters and crabs. Saucepans are an absolute must, and actually the more saucepans you have the
better off you will be when it comes time to start cooking.
It is also very important to be sure that you have an array of frying pans in your pot arsenal
as well. This will help in the event that you need to fry or sauté anything to add as a compliment to the dish you
are going to serve.
Utensils Speak Volumes In The kitchen
If you are going to have the great Italian kitchen that you have always dreamed
about, you are going to need utensils. These utensils are what are going to transform ingredients into culinary
magic. While forks, spoons, and knives are a given, you are going to want some of the more tailored Italian
utensils in your list of tools as well.
Items such as pasta spoons, soup ladles, and whisks are very important when it comes to food
preparation. This will allow you to cook like the pros and you will not be without whatever you need to get the
recipe done and done right the first time.
