When it comes to Italian cooking, the first thing you are going to want to ensure is that you
have all the necessary ingredients for the dish you plan on preparing. The usual suspects will
obviously accompany the kitchen while you cook such as: a colander, large pasta pots, and saucepans. While this is
considered the norm for cooking items, the unsung heroes of the kitchen are the items that go unseen yet very
appreciated when it is time to eat.
If your recipe calls for plum tomatoes, why on earth would you ever consider substituting those
tomatoes with cherry tomatoes? This is something that you will want to keep in mind when preparing an original
Italian dish; this is because family and friends on the meal will silently grade you.
Do It Right
If you are going to cook fine Italian food and you are concerned about having all of the right
ingredients, then you need to be sure that you go over the recipe well and make a list of
what you need for it prior to starting.
This will help you prepare the meal without stopping to run and fetch something that was
possibly forgotten. This is generally when things start to go bad in the recipe as things get overcooked or things
sit too long. Do yourself a favor and do it right when it comes to making the Italian meal a memorable one for your
family.
The Italian cook always ensures that they have ample supplies in their pantry to get them
through several recipes; this is not to say that you need to stock up in this fashion but it does not hurt. This
can especially be the case if you find a knack for cooking Italian food, and wish to experiment even further.
Store Bought Herbs Or Grow Your Own
Whatever you decide to do with the meal that you are preparing, you are obviously going to need
some herbs and spices to add to the dish. It is true the right ingredients make the dish, and this
can be most evident with the herbs and seasoning.
Italians are not shy about the use of spices and herbs to accentuate the fine tastes of their
recipes. They know what works and what does not in a dish. What you really need to decide for yourself however is
whether or not you want to buy your herbs or grow your own.
By growing your own, you have the ability to use fresh right on the spot for your recipes. With
the store bought herbs however, you can find them readily and will never have to worry about seasons and poor
growth of your own plants.
Say Cheese
When you are trying to ensure that you have the right ingredients for Italian recipes, the thing that you will not
want to forget is the cheese. This would be a big mistake, as the Italians love their cheese, and use cheese to
enhance many recipes from the most basic spaghetti all the way up to the most complex fish dishes.
