Ingredients Should Be As Fresh As Possible

Fresh Ingredients Is Best

When you are cooking anything you will want to always use the freshest of ingredients. Fresh is always best for a variety of reasons. With all the processed foods available today to make life easy, people have forgotten about fresh vegetables in their dishes.

While technically spinach is spinach, the type you add to your meal really does make a difference on many levels. Canned vegetables contain high amounts of preservatives and sodium. This greatly effects the taste of the food and in most cases does not reflect the original taste of the vegetable in it’s fresh form.

While frozen foods retain more of the vitamins and minerals than do their canned cousins, they do not always make a good substitute for fresh ingredients. Since they have been previously cooked, adding them to any dish could cook out the rest of the flavor and health benefits. Whether you are using vegetables in a particular dish or as a side, fresh ingredients is always the way to go.

Local Greens

One of the easiest ways to get the best fresh vegetables for your recipes is to buy local. Most local farmers use only organic means to grow their food. This will allow you know that what you are feeding your family is pesticide free, full of essential vitamins and minerals, and contain no additives or preservatives.

When cooking Italian dishes you will find that you will be using a variety of different vegetable, some you may not even be familiar with. Shopping fresh allow you to find what you are looking for easier and also get a sense of smell and taste that is essential for your cuisine.

While standard markets may have the more typical things you need fresh and for less, you will want to know which local grocers carry those specialty items you need from time to time. This can make your dinner stand out above the rest. Fresh ingredients is best when it comes to flavor.

Fresh Herbs

Most herbs come dried in jars and shakers today. They can be purchased almost anywhere and for cheap. Little do people know many recipes require fresh herbs to taste right. It is easy to assume that dried and fresh taste the same and contribute equally to a recipe. The reason many people choose the dried alternative is that you use less.

Dried herbs are much more potent. You will use about three times as much, but they will flavor and blend into your meal so much better. There is nothing worse than accidentally biting into a dried herb.

Fresh herbs carry so many more health benefits. Fresh is always best when it comes to antioxidant powers. Cooking with fresh herbs allows you to have more control over your flavor. You can easily add more or less to make it just right.

Another benefit of fresh herbs is that you can add many that you would not expect to get a new and improved blended taste. That is very difficult with the harsh dried variety.
