The Italians Make The Most Out Of Their Meats
from Italian Traditional Food

Great selection of Italian meats

The fact that Italians use a great deal of rice and pasta in their daily lives should not make you assume that they do not appreciate their meats. The fact is Italians have use for meat in far more ways than one could expect, and they are not afraid of experimentation to get the most out of a dish or a specific cut of meat.

You can find many Italians that will appreciate the more gamy meat such as deer or lamb, while others are more interested in beef or pork to fulfill their dietary needs. Grinding meats into chuck is a very popular option for the meat that the Italians enjoy and use on a regular basis, as this allows them to utilize the meat in various sauces.

Poultry And Fish

Perhaps two of the most used forms of meat that you will see the Italians deal with are fish and poultry. These meats are very easy to come by, and are extremely cheap. Many Italians will save themselves the money and actually fish for the seafood that they desire, as Italy has vast coastlines that can be explored and fished in.

Chicken and game hen is a very popular item in Italy, and much like the fish can actually be hunted for without having to make a trip to the local market. This makes this meat readily available and easy to plan around when it comes to setting up either a family meal or a dinner party.

If the market is close, Italians may not want to take the time to hunt for the meat that they plan on using, when all the meat that they will find at the market will be extremely fresh anyways.

Beef And Pork

Beef and pork is usually available to Italians for their meat needs, and you will not have to look hard to find what you are looking for. Italy is littered with farms offering various forms of livestock to those that are willing to pay the right price.

Just like the issue with fish and poultry however, many Italians are more willing to go to the market to get what they need rather than to butcher their own meat. This process entails a great deal of room, and appropriate storage facilities for the meat that you have carved.

Many of the meats that the Italians will buy will either be grilled or salt roasted to perfection, and you can find virtually all restaurants offering what is fresh caught for the day as well.

Nothing Goes To Waste

One thing that you will notice immediately about Italians that buy meat is that nothing goes to waste on an animal. Most organs are utilized for stews and soups, while most of the cuts can be used for various forms of recipe.

Some Italians are more than content to sit on what they have purchased for great lengths of time, and allow the meat to air cure into a form of firm deli meat or cold cut. While for many years North America shunned this practice, it has now become welcomed and actually more appreciated than originally expected.
