Italian Bread
Not Your Everyday Run Of The Mill
Loaf
When a great Italian meal is mentioned, one of the first things that come to
mind is Italian bread. These breads are always served with a meal in Italy, whether it is a fine meal or a simple
lunch at a café. Since the beginning of time in Italy, the Italians have sought the wheat
and other various ingredients to make their bread to use as not only a primary staple, but a delicacy as
well.
There are literally hundreds of various breads that come out of Italy,
finding the loaf that appeals to you most is a very daunting task. It is important to note that depending on what
you intend on dining on, will dictate what type of bread you should be eating as well.
Offer Up Some Garlic
While it may be true that the North American culture sees Italian bread as a
great vessel for the likes of garlic butter and cheese, the fact is the Italians were actually doing these
thousands of years ago.
The introduction of oil and garlic along with other various herbs and spices
allows the Italians the opportunity to make a different meal out of each loaf of bread that they ate. This kept
meals from becoming plain and mundane, and offered at least an opportunity to try new flavors.
One of the most recognized breads to adorn oils and garlic is the Focaccia
bread. This tiny pizza like loaf was one of the first breads to be eaten in Italy, and in fact many other cultures
traveled great numbers of miles to actually try this bread that they heard great things about.
Not Afraid To Try Something New
One thing the Italians can be noted for is that with Italian bread they are not afraid to try something new. Still to this day,
you can find many new versions of bread hitting the Italian bakeries in Italy and everywhere else on the planet.
This is because without the attempts to perfect their bread, they would not have introduced some of the fine breads
that they have actually created.
Taking a chance on something usually pans out for those that know what they
are doing, and the Italians definitely know how to make great bread. With herbs such as rosemary and oregano
Italian bread has transformed from plain dry bread, to a wonderful loaf of bread that can be enjoyed in any number
of ways today.
Any Way You Slice It
Basically any way you slice it Italian bread is easily one of the finest
breads that you can find. While most Italians will forego the use of butter on their bread at a meal, it still does
the bread no disservice to apply it.
The Italians use the bread to soak up the juices or sauce from the end of the
meal, and basically the butter merely gets in the way of a great soak. It inhibits the sauce or juice to bond to
the bread well, because of the oily nature of the butter itself.
