Spot the Italian vegetarian

There are a great many people that enjoy a fantastic Italian recipe, but what about those that are an Italian vegetarian? While it may seem like a daunting task to find an Italian dish that does not contain one form of meat or another, the fact it there are quite a few that can be enjoyed by the veggie lovers in the crowd.

Some vegetarians will eat various forms of fish or crustaceans, while others are sworn off of any form of meat all together. Whichever form of vegetarian you are, you can be sure that there is a great Italian dish out there waiting fort you right now. You need to pay close attention to what is being offered, and it does not hurt to ask questions if you are not fluent in the Italian language.

That Elusive Sneaky Fish

Anyone that is an Italian vegetarian knows that they need to pay particular attention to the fine details of a great Italian dish. Often you will find a sneaky and elusive addition to some of the most wonderful recipes that are originally thought to be “meat free”. The sardine or the anchovy are two small yet fragrant fish that can sometimes grace a meal that was otherwise free of meat.

You need to be very specific when you order, and if you do not know what you are actually ordering or asking for it could definitely ruin the whole dining experience. Non Mangio Pesce or “I don’t eat Fish” will go a long way in keeping the eating experience a pleasant one.

Great Sauces And Meat Not Need Apply

If you are an Italian vegetarian, chances are you have already encountered some of the most divine pasta sauces available to you. The fact is that you do not need to incorporate meat into a pasta sauce to make it a great topping for a dish.

If you were looking for something traditional and that does not require any form of meat what so ever, then look no further than a great Alfredo sauce that consists of nothing more than heaps of butter and Parmigiano cheese.

This is a great way to indulge in a fine Italian classic, and not have to worry about taking in more than you bargained for. There are great vegetable sauces that are made as well, and all you have to do is be specific on the no meat what so ever opinion.

Memory Serves You Best

The best way to enjoy a great meal if you are an Italian vegetarian is to go with what you know. Memory will always serve you best, and if you have not tried a dish that may be suspect of containing meat then avoid it and order what you know for a fact does not contain meat.

This is relatively simple in theory, but the best measure to avoid a problem while trying to dine Italian is to learn a few common Italian words that indicate to the wait staff and the chef that you are in fact a vegetarian.
